The Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences will hold a conference March 12-13 in Washington, D. C., on issues of early access to experimental treatments.

Panel topics include the "treatment IND," whether the philosophy of drug regulation is changing from beneficence to patient autonomy, cost and insurance coverage issues, how to allow access and also gather data, reaching the disenfranchised through clinical trials, and the parallel track and what it should accomplish.
