Ritonavir: New Approval for Children

On March 14 the FDA approved ritonavir for children age two to 16. While the drug was already available and could be prescribed for children, official approval is important because it means that a dosage recommendation has been tested, and found to have comparable safety and pharmacodynamics as in adults. Also, approval should help in obtaining reimbursement from HMOs and other third-party payers.
